Story

Around the world, theatres have been affected by this global pandemic. Imagine, for a moment, London without its infamous West End. Many artists, musicians, dancers, designers and performers have been left unemployed and wondering where their next paycheque will come from.

The Royal Theatrical Fund, The Show Must Go On campaign and many others were created to raise money to keep the arts alive within the UK. And here at Reading Blue Coat, the Drama department is hoping, with your help to do a little bit in order to aid this valuable charity.

Like many theatres, the performance schedule at Blue Coat has been affected by this global pandemic. However the show must go on, and we are pulling together and creatively presenting theatre in a new format, allowing our students the opportunity to still tread the boards.
Following on from the successful Evening of Drama in October, we are delighted to be bringing you our next online offering The Show Must Go On. With over 100 students involved we will be performing songs from much loved musicals such as Oliver!, Matilda, Spamalot, Dear Evan Hanson, Les Miserables and many, many more! So why not make an evening of it and get dressed up for a night at the theatre in the comfort of your own home. The event is free so we are asking for donations in lieu of a ticket for this extremely worthwhile cause. We hope that with your generosity and support we will be able to donate to this worthy charity and try and do our bit to keep the arts alive.

The Royal Theatrical Fund was founded in 1839 by Charles Dickens and supports those in the entertainment world who are unable
to work due to illness, injury or infirmity. The Theatre Community Fund has been established by Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Francesca Moody to support the theatrical artists and professionals whose livelihoods and creative futures have been threatened in the wake of Covid-19. This fund will be separated into two strands, hardship grants in partnership with the Fleabag Support Fund and creative and innovation grants.
