Story

As you may or may not be aware, our very own Becky Glanville was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at the age 22 and was recently told by her physiotherapist that her original goal of running is no longer possible and to concentrate on walking instead.

MS is a condition which affects the brain and/or spinal cord. As a neurological condition it can cause a wide range of potential symptoms from vision, movement, balance, & bladder control, to brain fog, fatigue speech & swallowing to name but a few. Currently there is no cure, only drugs & therapies to help manage symptoms, hence the importance of the Neuro Wellbeing Centre.

The Neuro Wellbeing Centre in Swindon is the only one of its kind in a 35-mile radius supporting multiple neurological conditions including Stroke, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis, ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, Autism, Functional Neurological Conditions and most recently Long Covid to name but a few. If you consider the Physical impact
these conditions have on the human body, we are very lucky to have this facility.

Their services include neuro physiotherapy, specialist exercise classes, social events, oxygen therapy to support the body’s healing, counselling, and health advice, not only for the member, but for their carer/family too. They provide services in a positive and friendly environment to help manage physical symptoms, slow the  progression of neurological conditions and aid recover, as well as offering services that reduce loneliness, help to retain independence,  build self-confidence, and maintain physical and mental wellbeing.

In true Becky style, there’s no holding this walking machine back!!! She’s set herself the goal of climbing Snowdon on September with 9 of her colleagues across Hassle-Free Money Change. Becky isn’t only challenging her body with the climb but is challenging herself to raise as much money as possible for the Neuro Wellbeing Centre.

To support Becky and her colleagues with their fundraising, us as your Social Investment Champions have come together and will be reaching out to you over the next few months with some exciting activities you can get yourself involved in to help us raise some cash!

So what’s first I hear you ask?!?!

The Activity: Mountain themed Rock n Roll Bingo
Where: Virtual on Teams
When: Weds 29th June - 11:30am-12:15pm
Ticket Price: £2 per ticket or buy 3 for £5

So how can you get involved?!

For those of you who don’t know what Rock’n’Roll Bingo is… Rock’n’Roll Bingo is a take on traditional bingo, but we’ve replaced the caller with short clips of music, and replaced the numbers with the artists and titles of some of the most popular songs on the planet. It’s extremely fun and very popular!!

If you’d like to get involved and buy some tickets, please drop Lydia Parmenter an email with how many tickets you’d like, pop your
donation on our Just Giving page, and Lydia will issue you with your tickets ready for the live event.

We’d absolutely love to see as many of you there as possible to kick start the Summer fundraising for the incredible Neuro Wellbeing Centre 😊
