Fundraising for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity
Story
Hi- All,
On 29th of August 2010 we will be doing a sponsored walk at a distance of 5 Miles, from the location of Hillingdon UB10 to Southall Middlesex UB1. Our aim is to collect at least £2,000 for each mile, giving us an overall target of £10,000. The charity we will be donating to is Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, On behalf of our Beautiful and very loved little sister Reena.
Reena was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder known as Leigh Syndrome when she was 18 months old, up until that point Reena had a very natural and healthy life. It wasn’t until when she was around 1 years old she suffered from a very high fever; which caused her development to delay. After this brief spell of sickness Reena became acutely ill and was diagnosed with this terminal illness.
Leigh syndrome is a genetic disorder which affects energy production in the cells meaning that Reena’s nervous system was slowly shutting down. Reena lived up to the age of 6.5; which exceeded both our parents and the doctor's expectation. This Illness itself is heart-breaking because there is no cure found till-date. Therefore every year which was given to Reena felt like a blessing. All of the unfortunate children who suffer or have suffered from this rare disease, hold a very short life expectancy, and many under-go a great deal of pain and suffering as this disease causes the body to break down from inside. This results in each organ in the body to stop functioning slowly.
Our Little angel was taken from us on 16th June 2010, as a result of a heart attack.
This little girl gave us the best six years we could have wished for; every memory is eternal and heart felt. Reena was a very happy and loving little girl; everywhere Reena went she spread a sense of joy around her. Reena will remain in our hearts forever, and this is why we want to return our love by helping collect as much money as possible in memory of our Little Princess Reena Rai.
Any donation big or small will make the biggest difference to all the children who are still battling out their illnesses day to day at the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.
As we have now completed our 5Mile walk..I just wanted to deeply and sincerly thank every single person whom has donated and helped us reach our target!...Not only did we match our target but also exceed it. We will always love and miss our little sister, and hope shes proud of what we accomplished in the loving memory of her.
