We support children affected by arthritis to Improve the family's experiences of JIA

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. We have just finished the 6.7mile Walk for Scotland - largely in the rain. This year we were dressed as Dr Who baddies. Jos was a Judoon, Beau was a Cyberman, Fin was a Slitheen, Meg was an Ood, Stuart was Dalek Sec - the dalek/human hybrid and I was a Dalek.  We won the fancy dress competition - again! We were walking for SNAC. Please help us support this very worthwhile cause.

SNAC - Scottish Network for Arthritis in Children. Yes that's right - children. Sadly they too can be affected by this horrible condition. There are currently around 800 children in Scotland with arthritis. My daughter Jos was diagnosed when she was only one. She now needs a weekly injection of a pretty horrendous drug to stop her joints from seizing up and to make things worse for her she is now also suffering intermittently from the associated condition of uveitis. From personal experience it is not pleasant. We’re not looking for sympathy – far from it, but we do need your money! Last year a group of people with children with this condition set up a new charity – SNAC, which looks to offer a support network for affected families. I know how important a support network can be – especially at initial diagnosis of a chronic condition. If we can help other families to cope then it makes life so much easier. We may not be able to take away the pain, but we might help make it more bearable. To be able to do this SNAC desperately needs funding. One of the things SNAC are doing is running a family weekend where families of children affected by arthritis can get together, meet and talk to others in the same position - usually for the first time. They will also be given information from rheumatological experts and get the chance to ask questions and feel for once that they are not alone. A weekend like this costs a lot of money though. We have managed to fund this year's weekend for 25 families and are now working towards next year's.

Please help us to make this possible. We really need you. Thank you again for taking the time to read this.
