Story
My old school swimming buddy/childhood friend Zoe and I, have bravely or stupidly (you decide), signed up to do the Great North Swim this summer (June 2018) and swim 2 miles (128 lengths of a 25m pool) in Lake Windermere located in the lake district.
We are hoping to raise money and awareness to support a widely unknown condition/charity FND Hope UK. FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) is described in short as having a neurological movement disorder where the brain does not send and receive messages accurately. There is little known and understood and it has been under-researched for many years. It can be as debilitating as Parkinson’s disease and MS and have many similar symptoms. Very few treatment plans currently exist for this condition and we are raising money for this charity who aims to raise awareness and support those diagnosed by researching prevention, treatment and recovery.
FND Hope UK is a recognised charity #1173607. We promote awareness of FND through education and raising public understanding. We are dedicated to supporting those individuals affected with functional symptoms by advancing research into practical applications for the prevention, treatment and recovery of FND. We are a force for change, uniting patients and their families with leading researchers and advocates to pioneer a new standard of care for FND. Our mission is to promote awareness, support affected individuals and advance research.
