Jonie died of cancer in the Highland Hospice almost a year ago.

By a sad coincidence, a work colleague whom I had known for over 25 years, Iain Wallace, also died in the hospice on the same day as Jonie. So I would also like to dedicate my ride to Iain. A second colleague, Bill Robbins also died in the hospice just a couple of days ago so I shall be remembering him too.

17 May: I set off today from the place Jonie last collected me from after my last long ride, Ardnamurchan lighthouse, the most westerly point in Scotland. My destination is Lowestoft, the most easterly point in England, a distance of 647 miles.

Many thanks to all those who have already donated and who have offered practical support along the way. It's down to me now!

Made a start about 16:30 for the short ride to Kilchoan where I am spending the night. Many thanks to friend Anne who gave me a lift to the start point 🤠. The lighthouse itself is closed for repairs so could only get as far as the gate.

22 May Now in Kilmarnock having a rest day. 163 miles completed as against 140 planned, due to various diversions such as an off-route lunch stop, a closed bridge, and a closed section of cycle track and of course having to avoid Glasgow due to covid restrictions.

By complete coincidence, met Geoff another old colleague, staying in the same hotel in Dunoon. I've met more friends on this trip than in the last 6 months!

28 May. Reached stepdaughter Judith's for a 3 day rest. 450 miles completed and 16,250 feet climbed.

1 June. On the road again, reached Newark-on-Trent.

2 June. Somehow messed up the Strava app so failed to record the first 28 miles from Newark to Folkingham. The Strava update shows only Folkingham to Spalding.
