I managed it in 2:15 so thank you everyone!!

I am in the 'rest' phase now - no alcohol, no big binges of carbs, just treating life as normal. Plenty of sleep, rest and perhaps a light swim on Friday.

I have been overwhelmed by the generosity of my friends and want to thank them all for being so kind in their words of support. Do remember www.canceractive.com in case of any of your loved ones needing information - pass them this site - they will be pleased you did.

For the past 4 months I have been out on average 3 times a week. I have covered since the second week in July a total of 167.7 miles and burned according to my chart 25,436 calories. (the 2.5 stone) in 30hrs, 59 minutes and 56 seconds.

I have had shin splints, calf strains, quad aches - you name it. I have got wet, soaked in fact, I have run in 28 degree heat. I have completed the 13.1 mile distance a number of times already. But now is the moment of truth.

My average run is 7.62 miles

Ok, so I have taken on a big challenge to complete this half marathon. It is about doing something for those less fortunate than myself with the added benefit of the discipline of losing weight, a gruelling training regime and a focus outside of myself.

I am running this event with three good friends now: Tim Nutman, Jon O'Donnell and Alan Stephens, all of whom are 10 years younger than me.

Tim is raising money for Altzheimer sufferers and if you prefer that one, you can donate to him instead at http://www.justgiving.com/Tim-Nutman and we won't mind a bit!

Why CANCERactive for me? Well I attended a seminar where Mr Chris Woollams gave a very moving speech about losing his daughter; and how there was so much conflicting research and articles such as which foods to eat or supplements that might help, treatments etc - imagine the dilemma of being diagnosed for the first time - this is a site that can help you with the background to the drugs in use and what to expect.

Every day there are conflicting reports in the papers about this disease and Chris is trying to give clear, unambiguous information by publishing the research; therefore allowing people to have more control and involvement in the decisions being made for them in their treatment plans by the medical profession. (They do not always get it right!!)  I just wanted to help Chris with his efforts to keep it all going.

I last did this half marathon in 2004 and it gave me cramps in muscles I did not know I had. I made the mistake of eating a cooked breakfast just before leaving for 'sustainance'. It took me over 4 hours to complete. I am older and wiser this time around!!!!

Tim and I have the advantage that we can traIn together as we live locally. I have been an "armchair giver" for the past six years, preferring to give than to raise. This changes all that this year. We are all determined to complete this challenge and donate whatever is raised by your collective generosity.

Thank you in advance from us all, and
