Story

So why am I putting myself through the Thames Path Challenge ?

On July 13th 2017 my auntie Annie was told she has progressive bulbar palsy, an incurable type of motor neurone disease where the muscles first affected are those used for talking, chewing and swallowing.

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work leaving people ‘locked in’ a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe.

My Grandfather also had this devastating disease, so I saw first hand how it affected him and all the loving family and friends around him. Although he was in his 70's, Annie is just 51 years old.

Personally I have never done anything like this before! This is a personal challenge for me too. Ok, I like to play a bit of football with friends, but a 62 mile jaunt in 24 hours might be a little more challenging. Hopefully the training and support from everyone will pay off.

I/we would really appreciate any support you can give to the MNDA no matter how small (Every Little Helps) !

The money raised will go straight to The East Dorset and New Forest Branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

See the link below for the story about Annie and how this can/will affect her life, as well as many others going through the same right now.

Many thanks
Rob.
