We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

The Louis Dundas Center For Childrens Palliative Care

In 2008 a great friend of The Lost Boys and her family had to deal with the loss of their four-year-old son Louis to a brain tumour. Through Louis’ experience they have discovered how under resourced paediatric palliative care is in the UK. After a bit more research it was discovered that this area of care is vastly under resourced globally.

We hope to contribute considerably to the Louis Dundas Centre for Children’s Palliative Care so that this will not remain an under resource area of medical care.

Children’s palliative care embraces physical, emotional, social and spiritual aspects of wellbeing, and focuses on enhancing the quality of life for the child and support for their family. The Louis Dundas Centre for Children’s Palliative Care at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the UCL Institute of Child Health will be a world-class centre to improve the lives of children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions.

The Louis Dundas Centre will bring together research, teaching and clinical practice to find and disseminate ways of improving children’s palliative care and will help not only improve the lives of children treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital, but children across the UK and throughout the world.

Together with the UCL Institute of Child Health, Great Ormond Street Hospital is the leading centre for children's health research in Europe. The charity wants to raise £7 million to create a world-class centre of researching, teaching and practising children’s palliative care based at Great Ormond Street Hospital; in order that other children and families don’t have to suffer as much as the loved ones of Louis.
