Story

Hi Everyone,

Thanks a lot for visiting this page.

The Plan is I go to my local pool and swim a mile, or more, and - with your help - raise some much needed funds for an important charity.

My local pool - Ladywell leisure centre - is 33.3m long so I will need to do 48 and a bit lengths.  Currently 6 lengths non-stop is only just about possible.

The reason I'm doing this is that my Mum (whom you may or may not know) is suffering from MND.  I've put a description of this nasty disease below.                                                                               She's confused the doctors by not letting the symptons take over as quickly as expected, and does voluntary work for the charity herself.  I figure if she can do all that then I could do something too.

The blurb below that will pacify any internet dodginess fears and make a really important point about tax relief.  It will also explain the targets I've set on this page.

Cheers,

Roger

Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.

MND affects how sufferers walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe.

Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life.

The "mnda" or motor neurone disease association is a charity that is not only trying to learn how to fight MND but is also for helping to learn about, and live with this condition.  Check their website.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please  stick a quid or more towards the fund.  Anything is appreciated.

I have set the target high as I feel that's the better option than setting it low.  If anybody is feeling flush and wants to set me a challenge of more money for lengths over a mile then let me know......
