Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. 20 of us flew to Hue from Saigon on 17 November 2011, ready to start the new course devised by Craig Eldred and Kelvin Luong.

Last year we completed the ride and raised over USD27,000. As at 16 December with approximatelyUSD28,000 raised:

-          560 children in our scholarship programme can go to school for a year.

-          SCC can buy bicycles for 933 children who spend each day walking more than 5km to school. Sometimes the distance to school is enough for a child to drop out.

-          SCC can build 5.3 classrooms to be used by up to 100 children in the Mekong Delta.

Two years ago I donated money to the Charity for the children in Cu Chi District of Ho Chi Minh City to receive 40 bicycles to allow them to get to school.  Many children live up to 10km (6 miles) from their closest school and the bicycles have made a world of difference in enabling them to get to school and improving their education.

Cu Chi is well known for the tunnels and anyone that has visited this area will have seen the remnants of the conflict many years ago (mango trees grow well in the unbelievably numerous remaining B52 bomb craters).  Cu Chi remains an area, very close to Saigon, in which the Vietnamese are trying to improve their lives and that of their children.  Saigon Children’s Charity is making a noticeable contribution to improve the prospects of children in the area as well as other children in need throughout Saigon.

Please donate an amount that you feel comfortable with and we are hoping that many children’s lives can be improved.  By way of example, a donation of GBP40 allows a child to receive a bicycle to get to school for the remainder of their primary and secondary education and GBP65 covers their education costs for one year. Multiples of these amounts provide for better prospects for more children and donations of all amounts are very much appreciated. The bicycle program is one of many that the Charity organises.  The donations are denominated in GBP and the approximate exchange rates are GBP = USD1.60, GBP = AUD1.50 and GBP = VND34,000.
