Story
Hi I’m Ross(ie),
Those that know me or have seen me about may have noticed I have dreadlocks.
My proposal is to remove the locks on the 5th anniversary of having them, the 25th of the twelfth month 2010 (else know as Christmas).
Some of you may only have known me to have them. I personally see them as more than just a hairstyle. They are an identity and a part of me. For this reason it will be extremely emotional for me to get rid of them. I am not doing this lightly. Plus I have been told by my mum and dad I “don’t have the face for short hair”, hence I will be sacrificing what looks I have for several months.
…And so, I though what better reason than to do it for a charity I genuinely have a passion for. I have had family members who have suffered from Alzheimer’s, and anyone who can share that experience will know how brutally cruel it can be.
Some Key facts from the Alzheimer’s trust website:
There are 820,000 people living with dementia in the UK today, a number forecast to rise rapidly as the population ages.
Just 2.5% of the government's medical research budget is spent on dementia research, while a quarter is spent on cancer research.
1 in 3 over 65s will die with some form of dementia.
The donation you make will help fund world-class scientific research to find ways to prevent, cure or treat Alzheimer's disease and related dementias, including vascular dementia, Lewy Body disease and fronto-temporal dementia.
The Alzheimer’s main achievements so far include:
1. Understanding of the causes of Alzheimer’s
2. Improving diagnosis
3. Treatments for Alzheimer’s
4. Understanding how we might prevent dementia
5. Building capacity for dementia research
I appreciate this is relatively short notice and near to Christmas. However if you know me I’m sure you will want to show your support in donating to this awesome cause. ANY donations will be massively appreciated and will help to pursue the cure for Alzheimer’s and related dementias. We will not give up until this is beaten!
Love to all.
