Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. A unique, ticket-only, amateur rugby tournament will take place in April 2010 at the Metropolitan Police Sports Ground in Surrey. Eight teams will go head to head in a special family orientated day around Rugby in aid of Hep for Heroes exclusive to everyone who is an employee in a government department or agency, the Army, Navy, RAF, Police, Royal Mail, BT and other public bodies such as museums, research councils and companies carrying out ex-civil service work and past employees of these organisations plus their friends and family!

The Help for Heroes (H4H) charity was the idea of Appeal Chairman Bryn Parry and a group of friends and relations, many of who have connections with serving servicemen and women. H4H is blessed by the head of the army, Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Richard Dannatt and has become a ‘National Institution’.  H4H is not about politics.

The RFU hosted a Rugby Challenge Match at Twickenham and 52,000 cheered on the Rugby Legends and raised over £1.3m.  Only complaint was, no one knew who to cheer for.  This is the opportunity to get behind your .  The intention of the amateur rugby festival is to revive rugby within the TA/reserves, raising awareness and much needed funds in aid of Help for Heroes charity.    Our event may not be as big or glamorous as the Challenge match at Twickenham last September, but I hope that you will be able to attend this small event, exclusive to civil, Crown, public servants put together by likeminded rugby-mad servants in aid of help for heroes.

Tickets for a bumper grand raffle will be sold leading up to the event and drawn on the day. Inflatable Castles, face painters, beer tents and BBQs will keep people of all ages entertained in between the exhilarating rugby. The Met Police will have their Air Support Helicopter in attendance (subject to operational needs) plus the Police Dogs and Mounted Units (we will be opening up the stables for visits, etc) and it is hoped that a Police Dog unit will put on a small display during the afternoon.  After the teams have gone head-to-head we will bring to an end our event with a the prize draw, notification of funds raised.

Celebrity guests and sports players have been invited to attend including the Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and Head of UK Border Force who will be in attendance.  Invites have been extended to the Chief Executive of Civil Service Sports Council and other Heads of Civil Service Departments.
