After completing four half marathons, I have decided it is time to raise the bar and have entered my first marathon which will take place in Edinburgh on May 26, 2013.

I will be splitting the funds I raise between two causes. One is Macmillan Cancer Support which I volunteer for. This is following the care it provided for my wonderful Nanna who died from cancer in 1995 and also for the support the charity has continued to provide for a number of friends’ families since.

The other cause is ward 22 at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary which is currently trying to raise £5,000 for a bladder scanner.  This is my way of giving something back to staff at the hospital who saved my amazing mum’s life after she suffered severe complications following a burst bowel in December 2012.

I will never be able to thank staff at the hospital enough for allowing me to enjoy many more special moments with my mum. But by donating funds towards this equipment, I can help them continue in their work of giving more families the happy ending we were so lucky and are so grateful to have had.

All donations made on here go straight to Macmillan Cancer Support but I also have several sponsor forms on the go which will allow me to split my funds raised between the two causes.

With preparation for the marathon so far including training after work, early rises at the weekend to go running for hours, several soakings in the rain and a trip to the physio with an injured knee, this is proving no easy challenge. But with your support and the knowledge that I am helping some great causes, I am determined to reach that finish line.
