My Name is Ryan Smith,

For the last two years I have been involved with a local charity called Active Hope. They came into my school and took me and some other boys out to learn new skills in adventure sports and develop leadership skills. I Learnt how to climb, mountain bike, canoe and loads more and worked with younger kids in Primary schools helping them to enjoy outdoor and adventurous activities.

I left school this year and have continued to work with Active Hope as a volunteer on their Trainee Instructor programme. As part of my training they have got me onto an eight week intensive training course down in CMC Pensarn Harbour in Wales. I'm going to get a whole load of qualifications, make new friends, learn more about my own skills and abilities and hopefully make myself more employable for the future. This costs money though! Active Hope have secured funding of £1800 towards the cost of the course, and I have to raise the remaining £1300. 

To do this I am going to cycle to Pensarn Harbour, 100 miles in one day! I am doing this on (Postponed due to weather) Friday the 8th Jan 2010 for the start of my course on Saturday! Its a long way, but I'm determined to do it and I'll have the support of some good friends along the way.

Update!!

As you all know the snow has hit fairly hard and made biking on the roads pretty tough. I'm actually down in CMC now and really enjoying the course and will complete the cycle as soon as possible. I will put the new date up when I have it!
