Story
In March 2014 I plan to conquer 18,526 ft (5,647m in altitude) of mountain to reach Everest Base Camp in a 14 day trek in aid of British Heart Foundation (BHF).
Through this I hope to raise awareness of heart disease and the struggles faced for those who are unfortunate enough to feel it's impact.
As many of you may know, I am a cardiac nurse, so this cause is close to my heart. Through my job I have had the pleasure and privilege of meeting many different patients and relatives from all walks of life, who have had to suffer, quite literally, heart breaking and distressing symptoms, often through no fault of their own.
So you may be asking, why Everest? A wise man and dear friend once said to me to make the most of my healthy heart while I can. So what better way I thought, than to climb a mountain?
There are common misconceptions about heart disease but the fact is, heart disease can affect anyone, at any age, regardless of lifestyle factors, all the way through life starting from birth. BHF fund research, develop treatments, teach life saving skills to prevent premature death.
In return for your generosity, I promise to work harder than I ever have before to complete this challenge. Please dig deep. Your money can really make a difference to British Heart Foundation and the imperative and commendable work they do.
I will not let you down!
