Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I'm Sarah, the health reporter at the Evening Gazette, who has been getting involved with some fundraising for the Butterwick Children's Hospice in Stockton. You may have seen a few of my stories in the Gazette, raising awareness of the Hospice's need for cash, as part of Children's Hospices Week, but I have decided to extend my own fundraising activity throughout June in a bid to raise a little more for this fantastic cause.
As the theme for Children's Hospices Week was Whose your Hero? I decided, in my infinite wisdom, to dress up as Wonder Woman. In my new guise, I met fellow fundraiser Hartlepool lad Ashton Kelsey, who at just four decided he wanted to raise a bit of money to help poorly children, so dressed up as a different superhero for seven days, even going to footie practice as Batman! Ashton raised more than £200 and proved to be a true star!
The Hospice is a fantastic place, which provides a lifeline to children with life-limiting illnesses in Teesside and across the North-east and their parents.
Every time I visit, I am touched by families' comments about the hospice, and the lifeline it provides to them, giving them a chance to do things we take for granted - like sleep, spend quality time with the rest of their families - even just allowing them the time to catch their breaths.
It's such a happy, friendly place and deserves all the support it gets - and it needs a lot given that it will cost more than £800,000 this year to ensure the children are able to enjoy all the facilities available at Butterwick House, just behind North Tees Hospital.
I will be dashing about in my Wonder Woman costume collecting funds in a big red bucket and many have already given generously. Thank you for that!
