Fundraising for Young Lives vs Cancer
This autumn on from the 14th - 24th October, I have decided to trek to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro together with my friends Jackie and Dale. The world's highest free standing mountain, Killimanjaro is 5,896 metres high and is one of the largest volcanoes ever to break through the Earth's crust. We will be trekking for 7 days starting off in a beautiful tropical pine forest and eventually climbing up scree slopes in temperatures which can drop as low as -20c degrees. An amazing journey and personal challenge, I am also doing this trek to raise money for the charity CLIC Sargent.Every 24 hours 10 children and young people are diagnosed with cancer. CLIC Sargent is the only charity that offers all round care and support to young people and their families providing services ranging from holiday home breaks, to research, financial grants and care from CLIC Sargent funded nurses.I lost my youngest brother to leukemia when he was 7 years old I was 13, so I know how important the care and support provided by CLIC Sargent is to both the child and their families. Cancer is a disease that is indiscriminate and the suffering unimaginable. A network of professional support for children who suffer with cancer, their parents and sibling really does make a difference in trying to cope.
