I need your help!
Some of you may know of my history when it comes to funding raising events, particularly those held by the RBS/Natwest! Last year I bid £2,000 to have a celebrity chef in house experience, with the money being donated to Hilton in the Community sponsoring Cash for Kids. This year, after attending the Destination Florida Summer Ball, I’ve pledged to raise another £2,000 within 12 months for Destination Florida and am looking for your assistance to help me reach my goal.
Destination Florida is a small North West based charity that organises holidays of a lifetime to Disneyland in Florida, for children with challenging health problems including terminal illnesses and life limiting conditions such as cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, leukaemia, organ transplants and many other conditions.
Every 2 years, seventy five children are accompanied by a team of over 100 volunteer doctors, nurses and carers who provide the highest level of care and supervision day and night for the children during the trip. The parents and families of the children on the trip will hopefully also be able to enjoy a week’s respite at home. The benefit of this can never be underestimated.
Whilst away, the children gain confidence, self esteem, experience independence and general well being as they are given every opportunity to enjoy the thrills and excitement of Disneyland and everything that brings. New friends are made and communications set up to keep in touch after they return from holiday. The children meet other youngsters with the same or similar conditions to them, which allows them to feel comfortable, talk, share problems and realise there are others feeling the same way as they are.
I was really really moved by the difference this trip makes in the lives of these children, which is why I was quick to put my hand up to pledge to raise this money.
The cost of the holiday is approximately £300,000 so Destination Florida need support in raising funds to ensure children from the North West can continue to experience this holiday of a lifetime.
