Story
Hi,
As you may know I work for Scotia Aid - Sierra Leone, a charity based in Bellshill.
Two of my colleagues Andrew & Nicki have just returned from visiting the projects that the charity supports in Sierra Leone.
I have decided to personally help one of the projects that we support, after hearing and seeing how the children are living.
It would break your heart - yet they are always smiling and appreciate anything!
The Murialdo Institute is a vocational centre for 17 year old plus students situated in the Kissy area of Freetown.
The institute is run by Augustine Lebbie, with over 300 students attending daily, they study a variety of subjects including building, metalwork, carpentry, dress making, electronics, accounting and catering.
The students are trained in subjects which enable many of them to secure employment in their trained field.
At the end of the day it is my wish to see that the next generation be healthy, educated, learn new skills and adopt a new way of life without disease, poverty & corruption for themselves!
I hope to go out there soon and present them with a cheque from all of your donations and keep them learning and smiling for another year!
If everyone I know donates even £2, then this will ensure that the orphanage and school can continue to support all the children over the coming months. It will also mean that should any of the children need urgent medical treatment then they will receive it. Malaria and Cholera are just 2 of the deadly diseases that affect Sierra Leone on an on-going basis and many children die each year. The children at the orphanage are just as at risk as everyone else, however by donating money will ensure that they will get treatment if they need it and hopefully will save lives.
Countries like Sierra Leone - high percentages of the population live in misery!
In Sierra Leone 53.4% of people still have to try and live on less than £0.84 a day!!
The impact of poverty is the hardest on the most vulnerable groups of the poorest segments of the population. - Children, women and the disabled. Children who are malnourished when they reach their second birthday could suffer permanent physical and cognitive damage.
I am hoping to visit this project and it would be great to see that the money raised has helped these children have a healthier life and more promising future.
So please dig deep and donate here now!!!
Or you could just text your donation by texting ‘SASL47 £2’ to 70070
Failing that - could you at least pass on this email or link to some friends you may know on Facebook or Twitter - I would appreciate that.
Thank you for reading - please click on to the link above and donate whatever you can.
Cheers,
Steve
