The Ultimate Pursuits Sea2Sea 2007
                    raising money for Sustrans

135 Miles in 3 days over some
                                     very rough terrain!!

We're raising money for Sustrans. Sustrans work on practical projects to encourage people to walk, cycle and use public transport, such as the National Cycle Network.

"The National Cycle Network is a great success story. Nearly half of you live within a mile of it. The Network carries over 230 million journeys each year, taking kids to school, workers to work dogs on walks, shoppers to shops - it even helps the Royal Mail deliver your post."

"Over 33% of kids would like to cycle to school, yet only 2% do
We're working hard to change this. Sustrans is the charity behind Safe Routes to Schools and Bike It - schemes working with young people and schools to make cycling and walking to school both safe and fun. We're also building hundreds of Links to Schools from the National Cycle Network, giving kids traffic-free routes and parents peace of mind."

These are just some of the quotes from the sustrans website. Please visit them here to find out how much more they do!

Event Itinerary:

       *
We set off on the evening of Thursday 11th October by Rock
tour bus to reach our start point at Whitehaven harbour.

       *
Early on Friday 12th October we quickly assemble
the bikes, dip the rear wheels in the Irish Sea and then off
we go. We stop at the Penrith Truck Stop for the night where
there's a bar, shop, hot showers and restaurant!
        Distance 50 miles.

       * Saturday morning we depart for Allenheads/Rookhope after
a nice breakfast, with climbs up Hartside and some beautiful
scenery to take in. This is the toughest of the three days!

        Distance 45 miles.

       * Sunday morning we set off on our final day for the North Sea
at Sunderland. After a few undulating hills it becomes a
downhill ride to the finish where we'll dip the front wheels
into the sea as is tradition. We'll take the applause from the
waiting masses (or the support vehicle driver and family!)
and then marvel at our achievements over the past 72 hours!

        Distance 40 miles.

The route is mainly traffic free - we trundle through countryside, amazing views and some fabulous artworks along the C2C route (including the Beamish Shorthorn Metal Cows on the Consett to Sunderland Section!). It's a tough ride but we've plenty of time to do it. Even novice riders will manage it and will feel exhilerated when they dip their bikes into the sea at Sunderland!
