My story

London to Brighton cycle challenge– 16 September 2012

Security Foiling employees will be taking the challenge and swopping engine power for pedal power to get from London to Brighton.

Mark Filby, Operations Manager and Mick Castleton, Technical Director have signed up to take on the gruelling challenge to cycle the 54 miles from London to Brighton. Further members of staff are also considering the challenge.

Together they will cycle through the countryside from capital to coast - all in aid of Mercy Ships, Security Foiling’s nominated charity. www.mercyships.org.uk

Mercy Ships have just completed a 10 month field service in Sierra Leone and are now preparing to sail the Africa Mercy, the world’s largest charity hospital ship to meet the overwhelming needs of Togo. People there live in great poverty with little or no health care, and the country is ranked amongst the poorest countries in the world.

The purpose of Mercy Ships is to work together in the poorest nations to help mend lives broken by disfiguring and life-threatening diseases. For some, life itself is at serious risk while others face ridicule and exclusion from their communities.

Funds raised will help provide life-changing medical treatment to those in desperate need.

Mercy Ships provide free medical care and humanitarian aid to thousands of the world’s poorest people. The surgeons, nurses and dentist volunteering on board Africa Mercy perform free surgeries such as tumour removal, cleft lip and palate correction, cataract removal, orthopaedics and skin graft for burns victims.

Mick Castleton, Technical Director, said: “Being aware of our corporate responsibility and with substantial increased sales from Africa, last year we chose Mercy Ships as our nominated charity and continue to find ways to raise funds to support the incredible work of Mercy Ships.

Security Foiling are independent world leading experts in foil and hologram security. Established in 1987 we offer services ranging from advice to complete document security solutions, designed and created through our specialist industry knowledge and fully supportst class knowledges ith ed by our first-class service structure.”

Charity Registration No. 1053055 Scotland (SC039743)

Mercy Ships is an international charity that provides free medical and humanitarian services to the people of Africa using its hospital ship, the Africa Mercy. In the developing world, lack of access to basic health care can have horrific results. Mercy Ships freely provides relief to the forgotten poor - saving lives, improving quality of life and restoring hope.
The Africa Mercy is the world's largest non-governmental hospital ship - staffed with volunteer doctors, nurses, engineers and agriculturists - that visits ports in some of the world's poorest countries. Doctors, surgeons and nurses onboard provide free medical and surgical services, while off ship teams help local communities develop sustainable water, sanitation and education programmes.
For further information on Mercy Ships please visit www.mercyships.org.uk <http://www.mercyships.org.uk/> or call 01438 727800.
