Story
A new year a new challenge!
I am again raising funds and hopefully awareness for/of ABTA LifeLine, ABTA’s charitable trust.
ABTA Lifeline was set up to help people and their families who work or have worked in the travel industry, and have fallen on hard times. Unfortunately, it's really sad, but this is more common than not in recent years, and ABTA Lifeline takes the time to listen and try and help.
In my time at ABTA there has been really diverse requests for help, these have included helping to pay the mortgageand winter bills, disability funding or even simply helping out with grocery shopping. Some of the stories truly are heartbreaking, and the people who contact Lifeline often do because they have exhausted all other avenues and really have no place else to go.
So in true “well I’m free and therefore can't say no" style, I am taking part in the 2013 London Triathlon in the sprint discipline. 750m swim, 20k bike and 5k run. Yikes!
If I’d signed up to a duathlon I’d feel pretty confident right now, cycling and running, I’m there! Not a problem, it might take me a while but I’ll complete the race! Swimming however is a different matter altogether.
My current swimming skills includes the ability to front crawl 50m without stopping and basically holding my breath for most of the way! Therefore, swimming needs to be my training focus over the coming months… the fact that its open water with thousands of other ‘triathletes’ isn’t on my radar right now!
Now the money bit! I really do understand that times are tight, but if you can spare 50p, £1 or a little more, your generosity is really appreciated and believe me going to a really good cause.
I'm also going to keep a training diary, it'll be on the ABTA Lifeline website: www.abtalifeline.org.uk so if you want to laugh (or cry!) have a look every now and then!
The generic bit...
