We’re Breast Cancer Now, the charity that’s steered by world-class research and powered by life-changing care. We’re here for anyone affected by breast cancer, the whole way through, providing support for today and hope for the future. By 2050, we believe everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live – and be supported to live well. But we need to act now.

Story

COOL RUNNINGS

Imagine a fifty storey high solid ice run. Your toboggan is travelling without any steering mechanism or brakes at speeds up to 80mph and you are riding on your own, face first, inches from the track, working to keep the tea-tray like sled within the confines of the track and not out over the top edge of the ice channel.

This is the Cresta Run, purposely built each year from scratch in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Riders have completed the whole 1.2 kilometre course in less than 60 seconds. Now two locals have privately funded a trip, with absolutely all proceeds going to Breast Cancer Research.

It’s a well kept secret to all but around twenty people but Shenfield has had its own skeleton bobsleigh team for seven years now, mainly doing charity work in races up and down the British Isles but for these two founder members 2008 holds with it their ultimate dream.

From their unofficial headquarters in the Eagle and Child Pub, Shenfield, Sean Emmett from Maldon and Richard Hindley from Billericay are swapping their day jobs this month and heading to the track in search of ultimate glory and hopefully nothing but a few bumps or scrapes.

Since building toboggan themed rafts and soap box karts from scrap in numerous events as far as Belfast, Leeds, Knebworth and Marlow, Sean and Richard have always fancied their chances on “The Run”, and both have 5 runs booked 23rd - 25th January 2008.

The run has been home to the Olympics in 1928 and 1948 and legend has it that Errol Flynn holds the record for the slowest time. Other notable riders include John F Kennedy, John Noakes and RAF pilot Andy Green, the man who broke the sound barrier on land in his rocket car.

All donations would be gratefully received at the just giving web site http://www.justgiving.com/ShenfieldBobsleighTeamSledGods or in the pink box on the bar at the Eagle and Child Public House, Tabors Corner, Shenfield.  As stated the trip is funded totally privately and all proceeds and donations will be going to Breast Cancer Research and we'd really appreciate. We'd really appreciate any donation, no matter how small.
