Story

Dear Friends,

As most of you know, up until last summer, I spent over 4 years in the Kenyan bush working on community based wildlife and conservation projects and had some amazing adventures, not least from raising and rehabilitating orphaned animals including a honey badger, caracals, bush babies and many more. Well as they say, you can take the girl out of the bush but you can’t take the bush and wild sense of adventure out of the girl, nor my overriding passion for Mother Nature.

I am now raising funds for 11 environmental charities (such as the World Land Trust, the Gaia Foundation and the Conservation Foundation), Ndoro Children's Charities and for a unique non-profit initiative called The Lost World Project organized by Ibex Earth (http://www.thelostworldproject.org/). The Project looks to send 10 young adults to Mount Roraima, Venezuela to join a critically acclaimed film crew to shoot a broadcast quality documentary that highlights the conservation needs of this ecologically important region, and to support international efforts to secure UNESCO status for Mount Roraima.

Mount Roraima contains one of the greatest concentrations of unique life found anywhere on the planet. However, it is currently under threat from activities such as mining, unregulated tourism and the introduction of foreign plant species and some animals.

The more funds I raise, the greater my chance of winning a place to travel to Mount Roraima this August for the adventure of a lifetime! More importantly, all the money raised goes directly to the charities, and every penny will be used to maximize the benefit for the environment. All gift aid will go to the Ndoro Children's Charities towards building an orphanage home, school and a clinic in Zimbabwe.
I will be making and selling African beaded jewellery and accessories to raise funds, so please send me an email on s_bhakoo@hotmail.com if you’re interested. I will also be joining the Ibex Earth team in the 10km London Legal Walk on 17th May 2010.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Shikha
