Story

Hi

Some of you may have heard, I’ll soon be taking on the biggest adventure of my life.  I along with 3 friends plan to travel to and trek to EVEREST BASE CAMP.  I think this will be amazingly challenging and will really take me out of my comfort zone.  I love sports and fitness but this is a whole different level.  It’s a once in a lifetime experience that I couldn’t resist.

I will be doing this for a great local charity started by a true Geordie gent, Sir Bobby Robson.  The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation focuses on the early detection and treatment of cancer and the clinical trials of new drugs that will eventually beat it.

This is a subject very close to my heart.  I think there isn’t anybody in this world who hasn’t been touched by cancer one way or another. The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation is a fantastic charity to support, administered by the Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Charity (Registered charity number 1057213).

We will be flying out to Nepal on Friday 17th December and returning Monday 10th January.

I hope to raise £2000 for The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation;  100 % of what you give will go to The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation (except if you use Just Giving who take 5%) .  All travel costs and equipment have been paid for out of my own pocket.

We plan to take on an 18 day trek with our goal being Everest Base Camp (5500m) situated on the Khumbu Glacier; we will also grab the opportunity to climb Kala Pathar (5545m) and Gokyo Ridge (5360m) for the ultimate views of .  If we have enough left in the tank we are going to make the push for Advance Base Camp (6500m).  We will pass through friendly Sherpa villages, experience a great variety of natural habitats, cultures and traditions, as well as enjoying the incredible scenery.  We will be walking from the treeline to high altitude alpine forest and best of all you get to see and other snow-capped peaks up close and personal!  stands at 8850m.  I have included some pictures that give a better idea of the type of terrain we will be trekking through.

I have set up a website site through Just Giving for online payments.  Just Giving will take 5% of all donations taken through their website as an admin fee.

I’m happy to meet with anyone who wants to donate directly to myself.  Cheques should be drawn in favour of “The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation” quoting the Charity Fundraising Reference SBR/003434/000249.

This will be the hardest thing I’ve done in my life so please pray I can make you all proud and that I’ll come back in one piece “Inshallah” (god willing).
