Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As a fairly recent convert to cycling, I'm attempting a big challenge this summer - to ride across the Pyrenees from the Atlantic Coast to the Mediterranean, taking in 710km (440 miles) and 11,500m (37,700 feet) of ascent, including tackling some iconic Tour de France summits such as the Tourmalet and the Aubisque.

My trip is totally self-funded but I would like to use the opportunity to raise some money for good causes. Sustrans, a campaigning cycling organisation, is one of two charities I am supporting.

Cycling is a wonderful way to get around, but in the UK our roads are nowhere near as safe for cyclists as they could and should be. In 2011 Johannah Bailey, the daughter of Dorothy and Eric Bailey, was knocked off her bike and killed whilst out cycling in London.

Johannah was about my age. I didn't know her but I know her parents and I have seen the terrible effect that her unnecessary death has had on their lives. Sustrans are currently running a campaign to improve safely for cyclists and I would very much like my efforts on the bike to raise some money to help them.

There will be a lot of blood, sweat and tears in the next few months of training and it will be a huge motivator to know that, if I'm successful, I will not only be achieving a personal goal but also raising money for a very worthy cause.
