Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The end of the story?

Well it's all over. I have walked the South West Coast Path. 630 miles in six weeks. It has been a great adventure, I have had some great experiances and met some wonderful people along the way. Simon's 630 mile adventure has so far raised £9,500 for Cancer Research UK with lots of money still to come in. Thank-you to all my friends and family who helped and supported me along the way.

Simon's 630 mile adventure is a 630 mile walk following the South West Coast Path. I will be starting my journey at the beginning of April 2011 from Minehead in Somerset and finishing six weeks later in Poole Dorset

Walking the coast path has been an ambition of mine for a long time. The aim of the walk is to raise money for Cancer Research UK. A challenge just as big as the walk it's self! So please give as much as you can to help me reach the target of £10,000.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say a big thank-you to my wife and kids for their time, love and support.

Also thank-you to my employer Listerwilder LTD for their support in this project.

 08/05/2010

Simon's 630 mile adventure is now a couple of weeks old and I am still getting to grips with the reality of it all. I am equally scared and excited by this project and have been quite over whelmed by all the support and messages of good will I have received. Thank-you all.

For those of you that don't know me let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Simon. I am 34 years old and live in Oxfordshire with my wife Miriam and my two children Lily and Noah. I am an agricultural engineer and have worked for Listerwilder LTD for the last 8 years. I first started thinking about walking the coast path while growing up in West Somerset where the path starts. I consider myself to be an "average Joe" as far as fitness is goes so training will be an important part of the upcoming year. This will be my first fund raising project and I have decided to dive right in at the deep end.

The plan so far is this: I will be leaving Minehead on Sunday 3 April 2011 and arrive in Poole on Saturday 14 May 2011.

Week 1 Minehead to Hartland Quay. Total 109 miles

Week 2 Hartland Quay to Perranporth. Total 202 miles

Week 3 Perranporth to Helford. Total 325 miles

Week 4 Helford to Cremyll. Total 411 miles

Week 5 Crymell to Sidmouth. Total 527 miles

Week 6 Sidmouth to Poole. Total 630 miles

This is just a rough guide and is still subject to change as the planning gets more detailed.

Wow! Time flies. I had planed to update this more regularly but time just disappears. Don't worry you're not missing out. Donations are coming in slowly now and I hope they will pick up as time goes on. Training is going well. I am walking as much as possible as well as running and even some cycling. Some days I feel quite fit and others just fit to drop. At the moment I am looking for corporate sponsors both financial and for equipment. If anyone has any ideas as to companies to approach please let me know. Some people are not keen on online donations so if you want to donate in another form send me an e-mail and I'll let you know how.

Less than six months to go now. I have been getting down to the day to day route planning. I will post it here soon.

29.12.10

14 Miles today with ponies and kids in tow. Nice to be back out in the fresh air after Christmas.

10.01.11

Well the big day is getting every closer. The official start date is Sunday 3 April. When I first started this project that day seemed such a long way away. Training continues apace with as much walking as possible. Now also carrying weight too. All the major pieces of kit are now sorted with just some smaller items left to sort out. The excitement is now building and I am looking forward to getting out there. Long range weather forecasts are not so good at the moment with temperatures a couple of degrees below average and a slightly higher than average rainfall. Lets hope that changes for the better!

19.03.11

Just two weeks to go now. I am very pleased with the fundraising totals so far. Thank-you so much to all those who have donated. There is still along way to go so pass the message on and ask others to donate too. I'm now keen to get going. My bag is in the process of being packed, training is done and the weather is improving. Bring it on!

1st April 2011

Thanks to those who supported the coffee morning today, much apprieciated. All packed up now and ready to head off to Minehead in readyness for Sunday mornings start.

3rd April

Today is THE DAY. Fine weather for a good start in high spirits with Mum Gail and Wife Miriam. A quick stop for a family picnic at Porlock then on to Lynmouth. A very long tiring day but rewarded by generous lovely people in Lynmouth who gave him a camping pitch and the lovely Village Inn who not only bought him dinner but donated as well.

 9 April

I am now in Widemouth Bay 130 miles in. Week 1 done and dusted. The days are wizzing by but the hours and hours walking are slow and painful.

2nd May

Cornwall is behind him, Plymouth has been and gone. Onwards to the end of week 5 at Sidmouth. The feet are not pretty but spirits are good and only 150miles to go.

Mon 9th May

Setting off from Lyme Regis, a mere 86miles left. all dried out after the weekend and keen to reach that finish point.
