Story
On Saturday 8 May at Salford Quays, AMSS formed part of the 39th Annual Two Cities Boat Race between the Universities of Salford and Manchester.
Spectators turned out to enjoy a great free day out with massive media coverage and high profile race sponsors, all helping to raise money for both boat clubs and for Macmillan, this year’s official race charity.
An exciting morning of Dragon Boat racing preceded the student races, and - as with previous years - colleagues were invited to raise money for Macmillan by rowing in a Dragon Boat.
The Faculty of AMSS formed a team of 18 to race a Dragon Boat for the Faculty - The Reluctant Dragons (which we were anything but).
Having paddled our way to synchronised victory in the heats The Reluctant Dragons made it through to the final.
In high spirits, a combination of cold weather, strong currents, poor positioning, a false start and, of course; strong competition commended our 4th place finish.
We all had a brilliant day and are very proud of our achievements as novice paddlers.
Thanks to everyone who has sponsored us for a great cause,
The Reluctant Dragons - here's to next year !
