Yorkshire Dale 26 mile challenge

Next challenge is to increase donations to £100k and provide enough money for 2 years ground breaking research for a cure to the Parkinson's condition that I was diagnosed with 2 years ago 2 days ago on 17/7/2009 at the age of 39 ( see http://www.parkinsons.org.uk/research.aspx) as Parkinson's UK is in the top 10 for research into the condition http://www.parkinsons.org.uk/about_us/news/news_items/all_news/parkinsons_uk_funded_research.aspx

I shall be undertaking a 26 mile walk in the Yorkshire Dales on 14th August 2011 and shall do this with friends - please support us, please give people like me hope by research and a cure asap!

NEWS FLASH ;-)

WE, together, through your donations and encouragement, have reached the finalists for the justgiving awards to be held at the Emirates Stadium on 10th February, for the category of "fundraiser of the year", and if won, would give me the publicity for much needed increased awareness regarding the Parkinson's condition and research to 'decode' the brain so that it would benefit us all!

The trek was completed as planned, and was more challenging than anticipated with many steep gradients and broken away wall, however, completed with a great team and so creating a memorable experience.

Photos of the trek can be seen at: http://picasaweb.google.com/sonalinlondon/GreatWallOfChinaTrekForParkinsonSUK#

Fundraising and training update can be found at: www.sonalchinatrek.blogspot.com

END TARGET = £10,000 Please tell family and friends if you have already donated. Please note - 100% DONATIONS GO TO CHARITY, as I paid all the costs for accommodation and flights etc. associated with the trip.

The Challenge: The Great Wall of China Trek (80 km or 50 miles / 5 days) Although the challenge approximates to 10 miles per day, the main factor of the challenge is the variable terrain (and on some days 70% inclines/descents on the approach to the towers along the wall) as well as walking for 8 hours/day, continuously for 5 days in anything up to 30 degrees temperature, which falls to 2 degrees at night when camping.

Parkinson’s explained: Sufferers of Parkinson’s have a lack of dopamine in their brain, which can affect their movements. Every hour, someone in the UK is told they have Parkinson's. 1 person in every 500 has Parkinson's. That's about 120,000 people in the UK. 1 in 20 is under the age of 40.

Parkinson’s UK: Parkinson's UK provide support and are a research charity. The purpose of me supporting this charity is to ensure that through research, there is a cure soon, and in the meantime, there is support and advice which can be obtained from Parkinson’s UK for sufferers, as well as an increased awareness of sometimes a condition not understood.

Your donations provide:

£2 ~ a DVD for someone recently diagnosed with Parkinson's

£26 ~ a nurse can answer the helpline for an hour

 £100 ~ fund a Parkinson's nurse for the day

£1,000 ~ fund research for one week

£1,500 raised from my 40th birthday money

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.

Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer (all you have to do is tick the box to say you would like to claim gift aid as you are a uk tax payer).

NOTE - there is an option to add your name or remain anonymous and also to display the amount contributed or not!

Donations gratefully accepted on behalf of Parkinson’s UK – Sonal x
