Hello! 

Welcome to my DW page. I am, once again, taking part in the Devizes-Westminster non-stop Canoe Marathon at Easter. I will be paddling a double kayak. The event will start at Devizes, Wiltshire and finish in Westminster, London. It consists of 77 portages (carrying boat on shoulders over land which is normally at locks) and is 125 miles in length - 54 miles on the Kennet and Avon canal; 71 miles on the Thames. I shall be living in Brussels Jan-March, so my training schedule will consist of daily runs, gym work and paddling on the canal in Anderlecht, Brussels. I will be coming back to the UK for all of the warm-up races - thamesides and watersides which are in February and March. 

Having already done this marathon before I know that I am going to have to endure training in sub-zero temperatures  -ice and snow; slippy and muddy portages, being attacked by swans on the canal, severe physical and mental exhaustion, perhaps hallucinations like last time, chronic pain in my fingers, arms, shoulders, back, legs, backside (just abouts everywhere), sores and blisters, highs and lows. Did I mention where we go to the toilet? best not...

Anyway, it's a long, hard marathon which will push me to my limits and beyond. I am still seeking support crew, so if you fancy getting involved over Easter - feeding and watering me, then please get in touch. If not, then please sponsor me. Cancer Research is a charity which is very close to my heart (my mother is a breast cancer survivor). The work that Cancer Research does is really cutting edge, helping to revolutionise cancer treatment to save lives - not just in the UK, but worldwide. Cancer will, after all, effect 1 in 3 of us at some point in our lives.
