I have chosen to raise money for Alopecia UK. Alopecia is a condition which causes hair loss in men, women and children. Although the disease itself is not damaging to the person's health, coping with hair loss can prove challenging. The hair loss can range from a small patch to the whole body. In some cases, the hair grows back; sometimes it will stay permanently, sometimes it will keep falling out, and sadly, sometimes it never grows back.
No one knows what causes alopecia, but it is believed that it is a disease of the autoimmune system, where the white blood cells mistakenly attack hair follicles resulting in hair loss. There is no cure and no way to tell whether the hair will grow back or not.

15 yrs ago someone close to me was diagnosed with alopecia and I have seen how it has turned their life upside down. Unfortunately, the hair they lost has yet to grow back to how it was before diagnosis, which understandably is very hard to cope with.

Alopecia UK provides help and support for people with alopecia who are struggling to cope, aims to raise awareness and funds research into the condition.
