We support people with a terminal illness to live as well as possible

Story

In March 2022 Sophia was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer. Following a mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, Sophia was unfortunately diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer almost a year to the day later. It had spread to her skin and spine.

Sophia was first admitted to Teesside Hospice on 30th March 2023. It was such a relief to get her there, after so many hospital visits and admissions.

I simply cannot stress enough how much staying there benefitted Sophia. The staff are faultless. They are caring, considerate, empathetic and exceptionally passionate about the work they do. This all contributed to the peaceful, dignified and serene ending that Sophia deserved.

Moreover, when the hospice learned we would tragically miss our planned wedding, and knowing Sophia's fight was drawing to its conclusion, they hosted the most wonderful, private ceremony for us around Sophias bed. I honestly could not have asked for more from them.

She passed away 10 hours later on 10th April 2023 and will be sorely missed by everyone.

I have set up this page in memory of Sophia, and in recognition of the exemplary care she received. This journey was always going to be hard, but Teesside Hospice made it easier in the only way possible.
