Story

8 August, 2010

7 months of training stood its test, and I’m glad to say that I completed the London Triathlon earlier today. A very big thank you to all of those who donated money to SmallSteps. Your generosity vastly exceeded my expectations, and made all the sweat very worth while.

Thank you also to the big fan-club, lead by Noah and his brother Sebastian, who showed up at the Excel Centre to cheer us on. You gave us all a big boost when it was needed the most (i.e. all the time).

Ohh, and in case you care - I completed the race in 2.49.41 (Swim 32.59; Bike 1.12.04; Run 56.31). It won’t get me in to the 2012 Denmark Olympic squad, but judging by my acing body this evening I think it was about as good as it gets.

With kind regards and sore legs.

Soren

Ps: should there be anyone else out there willing to help SmallSteps in its work to look after Noah and all the other kids, the site is still open for donations.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's time to find the Speedos, dust off the old bike and don the lycra for a gentle jog to finish off. Or in other words, it's time to try out the Triathlon experience.

Why such madness, when one could be hitting the pub or just chilling out on the sofa with a big bowl of popcorn watching a good movie (now the World Cup is over)? Well, all the sweat is in order to raise funds for a very good cause.

My godson Noah has Downs Syndrome. As a result he was born with both physical and development disabilities. Things that for most children come very easily, such as learning to sit, crawl, walk and speak are a big challenge for Noah and he requires a lot of support. Nevertheless he is doing really well, he's an absolutely enchanting little fellow with a wonderful big smile and I thoroughly enjoy all the time I'm able to spend with him.

Noah's development has been supported by an incredible charitable organization - Small Steps, which helps children with disabilities. Small Steps does not receive any direct funding from the government; nor does it have an endowment and must raise roughly £250,000 each year to help these children.

Together with Noah's dad and 13 other people including parents, familiy, friends and Small Steps staff we hope to raise some of the needed funds by participating in the London Triathlon on August 7-8 over the Olympic distance (1500m swim / 40k bike / 10k run).

Do come out and cheer us on. I'll be the one exiting the swim towards the back-end, desperately trying to hide my diving gear from the race-officials.

On behalf of Noah and all the children at Small Steps, thank you very much in advance for your generosity. Your support is very much appreciated.
