Ronald McDonald House (RMHC) is a charity that provides free 'home away from home' accommodation at hospitals, enabling families to stay close to their child and maintain a degree of normal family life in the most challenging of circumstances.

 

RMHC is dear to our hearts having been there to help some of our friends recently when their little ones have been particularly unwell.  This, and a heavy sprinkling of bravado, has led us to sign up for cycling the South Downs Way in just a Day this summer:-

o       to via bridleways (mud, grass and gravel)

o       Just under 100 miles of beautiful (but gruelling) cross country

o       A total vertical climb of well over 10,000 ft.  To put this in context, that's just about 2 miles upwards, or in mountain terms: over 2 Ben Nevis's, or half a , or a third of an Everest, all in one day

o       The same 10,000 ft plus  in bone juddering descents

o       A brutally early morning start to get over to to start just after dawn, to then ride for about 14 hours to get to before sunset

o       About 4000 calories of additional body fuel to eat our way through (every cloud…)

o       Probably a few punctures and/or equipment malfunctions, a bit of whining about saddle soreness, some amazing views, plus an inevitably huge amount of  chit chat (making this a mental challenge as well as a physical one)

o       A whole lot of training rides, and a fair bit of alcohol abstinence (and all this during the World Cup too)

 

So, in summary, a massive challenge for a very worth cause - please do give generously, and, if you can, come and cheer us on, we should be passing through Brighton (Devil's Dyke and Ditchling Beacon) mid to late afternoon on Thursday 17th June.

 

As L&G and ICAP staff, we'll be looking to get as much of the money we raise matched by our respective companies to ensure RMHC receives as much in donations as possible.  Likewise, please utilise Gift Aid to claim back money from the greedy taxman ( taxpayers), it's 28p for every £1 donated, so makes a big difference to the charity.
