MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.  Please give generously.

We (adults and children) are taking part in Pedal for Scotland’s 51 miles cycle from Glasgow to Edinburgh in support of our Club and local Charities in North Edinburgh.

Why The Spartans Football Club? - football has a very powerful and positive influence on people – especially young people.  Not only can it provide opportunities for enjoyment and achievement, it can also develop valuable qualities and skills such as self-esteem, leadership and teamwork.  Spartans provides opportunities for men and women, boys and girls, to participate in football at a variety of levels.  Spartans places the welfare of all young people first and adopts practices that support, protect and empower them.  With YOUR help, we can continue to develop and train our volunteers in their duty of care particularly towards children and to help to protect them from abuse.  Spartans Football Club is committed to the protection of children.

Why Local Charities? – we are based in North Edinburgh and work in partnership with a number of local groups.  North Edinburgh figures extensively in the worst 15% data-zones within the Scottish Government's deprivation statistics.  We are located in the City of Edinburgh Council’s Forth Ward which is rated as significantly below average compared to the rest of Scotland in terms of education, skills & training and crime prevention, and below average in terms of health, housing and employment.

The area has high levels of social housing, 36 % of families are lone parent, 42% of children live in workless households, and 45% of adults in the area have no qualifications. This level of disadvantage is further compounded by clearly discernible poor levels of heath, which are amongst the worst in Scotland.  Scottish National Statistics recorded that a fifth of the local Greater Pilton population is income deprived; with hospital admissions resulting from alcohol misuse nearly double those for the city as a whole, with admissions from drug misuse more than double those of the city.  We’d like to help our neighbours, one of whom is the charity HopScotch.  HopScotch provides FREE respite breaks for Scotland's most disadvantaged children.  More can be found on their website at www.hopscotch-holidays.org

Our objective? – to have a fun day out cycling between Scotland’s two major cities.  We also want to raise as much money for our club and for charity too.  We hope that our physical exertions on Sunday 12th September will help us attain our goals.  We are, mutually, “good causes” and worthy of your support.
