What is the 15 Peaks Challenge? It's a bonkers event really. We'll climb Mt Snowdon plus the 14 other peaks around it, that are above 3,000 feet. That's 30 miles and 14,000 feet of ascent and descent. The challenge is to do it in one go, on one day, as a team. Here's a panoramic view of the peaks from Y Garn http://www.welsh3000s.co.uk/panorama.html
Who are HOPEHIV? A fantastic charity that focus on supporting, training and tranforming the lives of children and young people whose lives have been devastated by HIV or AIDS. The ethos is amazing - HOPEHIV see that these children and young people have the potential to be a generation of hope not one of despair. Because ...
The thing that's special about HOPEHIV is that they are very focused and scour Africa and choose projects carefully to maximise impact and scalability in the long term. HOPEHIV selects partners based on the their ability to deliver against the folowing values:
• Multiplication • Community Ownership • Sustainability • Leadership Development • Innovation
HOPEHIV helps project partners develop, helps them secure government grants/generate income through enterprise. They hold conferences for partner staff, helping them to share best practice, discuss problems and generate new ideas. HOPEHIV consider they have succeeded when projects no longer need them.
HOPEHIV was founded in 1997 when Phil Wall met Zodwa, a little girl whose mother was a sex worker dying of AIDS. Unable to adopt, Phil and Wendy started to raise money to help. Today 50,000 children are being helped by HOPEHIV through 40 partners in 400 communities in sub-Saharan Africa.
