As you may know the Wigg family has been linked with King's House School in Richmond for 28 years.
For the past four years King’s House has been involved in supporting a school in the south west corner of Rwanda on the border with the Congo. A new school was built for the young people in the area using money raised by King’s House parents and further funding provided uniforms and basic equipment. When the school was built cabling and lighting equipment was installed so that when electricity reached the village, the school could be linked to the network. This opportunity has now arrived. By providing the school with electricity this will mean light in their classrooms, perhaps a warm meal during the day and maybe, one day, computers to link them with the rest of the world.
By raising at least £1000 we can connect the school and pay the bills for the first 2 months. With £4000 we can connect the school and cover the 1st year's bills. With £5000 we can provide them with all of that and a basic generator to keep the power on when they have a power cut.
We will be joining many King's House pupils, parents and staff in the hope to cover 4500 miles, the distance between here and Rwanda, in two weeks culminating in a big fun run / walk in Richmond Park on 27th February 2010.
As a family we are planning to clock up at least 150 miles between us with the aim of raising £500 to contribute to the bigger target. Any donation you can make to help us achieve this will be much appreciated by us all. Thanks to your amazing generosity we have now been able to up our target to £1000 - a great big thank you to all that have donated so far, you are the most incredible friends!
It will be wonderful for Gilly, who is retiring from King's House at the end of this term and who will be visiting King's House Rwanda in July 2010, to see this exciting project in action.
