Stanley update

Stanley and everyone at the Coventry Animal Centre would like to extend a massive thank you to the generosity of everyone who has supported us taking part in the fun run to raise the funds needed for Stanley.

We all had a great day at the fun run and some of the fitter staff members managed to run 4 miles in just over 30 minutes the rest of us think there was definitely some secret training going on, the slightly less fit team members tumbled over the line in just less than hour.

Stanley’s Appeal has now raised over £1800 towards his treatment which is a fantastic amount as he did not receive the best of news when he went for the surgery last Wednesday.

We took Stanley for his operation duly hoping for him to go under the anaesthetic and begin the first step of getting better. Unfortunately this was not the case as the specialist vet did not believe the problem was caused by his palate but more by an ongoing problem with swallowing.

Stanley was admitted for a swallowing study and this showed his stomach was herniating into his oesophagus.  After our specialist vet had sent a copy of the film to another specialist they agreed that this was likely to be the cause of Stanley’s problems rather than the concerns about the soft palate.  Stanley has been given some medication for a few weeks in attempt to reduce the inflammation in his oesophagus. Once this has taken affect we can take him down to Bedford for a surgical repair.

Unfortunately this means even more expenditure as the specialists diagnosis cost in excess of £400 and the new operation will cost around £2500. Meaning a total expenditure of nearly £4000, on top of this the centre has recently admitted a 6mth old Bull Terrier called Rocco who had two broken back legs this has also required specialist surgery costing over a £1000.

The self funded Coventry Branch normally spends £4000 - £5000 per month on veterinary fees for all the animals in its care. Julys total is likely to hit in excess of £10,000 with these two special guys who we believe deserve the chance of living a new happy life free from pain and fear.

Everyone at the branch has been stunned by the kindness and generosity of everyone who has donated so far and we would urge anyone else who can help by making a donation however small to do so.  You can donate by visiting our just giving page http://www.justgiving.com/Stanleys-Appeal or by even doing your own event and setting up your own page.

Thank you

Glenn Mayoll

Centre Manager

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Stanley arrived at the RSPCA Coventry Animal Centre in early 2010 severely emaciated and with lots of medical problems, within a few days he ended up at home with Glenn, Centre Manager and Hannah, ACA for some extra special TLC to help him get better. Every time Stanley ate he would vomit his food back up and Hannah devoted her time into finding ways to keep his food down. At one point this took the form of an hourly feeding rota !

Now after a few months and lots of veterinary investigation Stanley is back to a normal weight and with careful management we can normally control his vomiting. However he still has underlying problems which cause excessive salivation and vomiting.

Stanley recently underwent and endoscopy and it was noted his soft palate was elongated which could be causing some of the problems. We beleive this is causing some of his problems and needs to be shortened.

This is where you come in ................. the operation is set to cost in excess of £1100 and the branch has already spent hundreds of pounds trying to get Stanley better.

Therefore a team of 8 staff members, partners and friends have agreed to take part in the Coventry Fun Run to help raise the funds needed. Please support us in a our efforts to raise the funds for Stanley by donating as much as you can afford. Every penny really does count for Stan !

As ever there are no guarantees this operation will solve all his problems but fingers crossed it will help improve his life.

Stanley is only 18 months old and we are hoping he can live to a ripe old age. He is a lovely boy who has fitted in a treat at home with Muffin Glenn’s dog and the rest of foster animals that come and go. Hannah and Stanley have become inseparable and he now has his home for life we just need to get him better.

If we are lucky enough to raise more than enough money to pay for Stanley’s Treatment any monies over will be used towards the centres £50,000 per year bills.
