This July I will be taking on a new challenge in support of the Alzheimer's Society.

The Alpine Cycle Challenge runs from Zurich to Frankfurt and rises to a maximum altitude of 850m, a total descent of 2,100m and a total distance of 270 miles.

The fact that i have had to buy a bike to do this indicates my previous cycling experience!!

Our route starts out from beside Lake Zurich and winds through the city before heading away from the hustle and bustle and up into the foothills of the Black Forest. The Schwarzwald or Black Forest as we know it is anything but flat - it is actually challenging riding through wooded mountainsides - certainly challenging, and really exciting on the downhill! After traversing the Black Forest we shall drop down into the Rhine Valley, and cross this most famous of European Rivers, into France briefly and to Strasbourg. From the beautiful old Alsacian city of Strasbourg, we shall head up the (flatter) Rhine Valley. Finally we shall ride into Frankfurt having covered around 270 miles, not a bad pedal!
