I've joined ~50 strong group to cycle across Ireland bracing all that the weather an throw at us (which will probably be a fair amont of rain - it's not called the Emerald Isle for nothing).  The route is :

Day 1 : Castlebar - Galway

Day 2 : Galway - Thurles

Day 3 : Thurles - Dublin   

The 35 year old Raleigh wasn't looking up to the job.  After years of neglect and a tussle with some bubble wrap a new(ish) machine was in order.  Enter the Peugot; at 10 years it was mere youngster but very much up to the job;  super skinny tyres and brakes that work in the wet - a whole new experience.

Having only ever ridden 20 odd miles in one go some serious training is required.   The ride isn't until Septemper so there should be enough time.  Training ride 1 completed - ~35 miles and don't think I did too bad.
