Dont forget you are helping Sportsaid and Coventry Round Table Charity Funds

Since 1997, SportsAid has focused on giving awards to youngsters aged 12 to 18, from 50 able-bodied and 25 disability sports. These athletes compete in national squads and these awards, generally worth £500, help with costs such as travel, training, accommodation, competition fees and equipment. It is these people who will inspire our youngsters make a nation proud and maybe get us all exercising

Round Table has given hundreds of families respite holidays where mental illness has been a problem within the home, funded aid dogs for the disabled, and this month assisted Help for Heroes, amongst lots of other projects.

Daring duo Darren Jones and Andy Millar, both Round Table members from Coventry, have decided to ride a pedalo from Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, to the site of the 2012 Olympic Park in Stratford, London.

The two-seater craft has a top speed of just three mph and the 212-mile journey is expected to take the pair about two weeks to complete.

Darren, who is also the president of the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “We were inspired to undertake the journey while watching the Beijing Olympics in 2008.
“It is going to be hard work but it will certainly be worth the effort in the end.

“We thought it would be a great opportunity to promote the 2012 Olympics while also raising money for a lot of very worthy causes.”

The pedalo team, who have been training for the journey since November 2008, is hoping to be joined by a host of celebrities and important local figures as they travel along the canals and rivers.

It is hoped the journey will raise at least £25,000, half of which will be donated to sports charity SportsAid with the remainder being split between local charities via the Coventry Round Table.
Tom Clift, partnership manager for the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership for the 2012 Games, said: “The Games will act as an inspiration to an increasing amount of people as our journey to 2012 gathers pace.

“This is a perfect example of how 2012 can inspire people to get involved and benefit the region in the process.”

The project was officially launched on Monday (July 6), at Bancroft Gardens, Stratford-upon-Avon, and the pair will begin their journey from the same location on September 4.
Tim Lawler, Chief Executive for SportsAid, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in this superb fundraising challenge.

“By working to raise money for SportsAid they’ll be
