Robert Broude was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer when he was only 17 years old. He died after a 2 ½ year battle at the age of 19 in 2004.
Rob was treated at the Young Oncology Unit (YOU) at The Christie in Manchester - the YOU is a dedicated unit for 16-23 year olds who have cancer.
Rob underwent numerous courses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy and had 2 major operations. During this time he continued to live as normal a life as possible, carrying on with his education at The Manchester Grammar School and even managed to achieve his ambition of going to University. He spent one term at Sheffield University before he died.
Rob's dream was to create an environment where young adults could feel comfortable during their often gruelling treatment, so Rob’s family and friends raised £250,000 for a new Day Care Unit at the YOU, which is known as “Rob’s Day Unit”. However, the existing YOU and "Rob's Day Unit" outgrew their purpose and so have relocated to an incredible brand new facility. Therefore we are committed to continue fundraising to achieve a goal of £400,000 for new equipment and other creature comforts in memory of Rob.So please help us to continue fulfilling Rob's vision and sponsor me as I race round Manchester city centre.
Love, Susan xx
