Believe it or not we have taken on the challenge of climbing to raise money for St Andrew’s Hospice.
St Andrew's Hospice, the only Specialist Hospice within Lanarkshire, provides palliative care services to over 120 terminally ill patients every week. In 2007 our Grampa was a patient in St Andrew’s Hospice – with highly experienced, friendly staff, comforting surroundings and the highest level of care imaginable the Hospice really does make a difference.
Since 1986 St Andrew’s has grown to support the needs of patients and their family to now provide:
· A 26 bedded specialist palliative care unit moving towards 30 beds · 2 bed respite care service for older adults living in the community and young chronic sick · Day Hospice offering care for up to 60 patients every week · Care at Home service for those patients who choose to want to die at home · Specialist range of support services · Consultant led domiciliary service · Telephone palliative care advice line · An education service to support the understanding of palliative care in Lanarkshire All services are provided free of charge to the patient. The annual running costs are approximately £4.2 million of which nearly £2.2 million has to be raised each year from public donations, this is approximately £44,000 per week! From this you can see how important your donations are to maintain the vital services provided by the Hospice. So, to help St Andrew’s achieve their annual fundraising target we are taking part in the Mount Kilimanjaro Challenge! On we are flying out to to trek to the summit of the highest freestanding mountain in the world – ! Taking the tough but scenic route known as Machame we will trek for 7 days through tropical rainforests all the way up to the snow cap summit reaching a height of 19,342ft!! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Since October 2009 when we signed up to the challenge we have held various fundraising events:
We held a car boot sale on using the charity pitch free of charge at the fruit market; the day was a great success raising £475 towards our target.* Halo Hair and Beauty Motherwell * The Stand Comedy Club, Glasgow
