Story
If anyone remembers the lyrics to ‘Always Apply Sunscreen’ this morning I took one particular line to heart– ‘Do one thing everyday that scares you’.
Shopping online! It wasn’t so much the act of paying for something over the internet that scared me, although if I’m honest I always secretly think that if I buy as much as a penny chew online, the entire contents of my bank account will be squirreled away by some unscrupulous fraudster ;-) It was the actual purchase that scared me and, as the day has progressed, that fear has turned into nervous excitement at what lies ahead.
Today I purchased a place in a 100km night cycle ride – Women vs. Cancer!
According to my online converter 100km is approximately 62 miles - no small feat for me, especially when you consider that at the moment I don’t actually possess a fully functioning, rust free bike ;-)
When completing the registration form I had the option to dedicate this ride to the memory of someone and, presumably, if I’d done so their name would show on this page. However, I only had the option of naming one person, and although one particular person immediately sprang to mind, this was quickly followed by thoughts of ‘what about…’ and ‘I can’t forget…’ so instead I dedicate this ride:
In memory of every woman and man who courageously fought against cancer, but sadly lost the battle. In admiration of everyone who is currently facing this battle, with strength and determination, and in celebration of everyone who has fought cancer and won.
Please help me raise money so that when it comes to Women vs. Cancer – Cancer is knocked out cold in the first round.
