We identify and recognise unpaid carers to support them in their caring roles

Story

With 81% of carers spending more money and 70% of carers providing more care due to the coronavirus outbreak, we, the students of University of Bath wanted to help Swindon Carers Centre during this pandemic. Swindon Carers Centre is a charitable organization, which is a part of the Carers Trust, established to provide help and support for unpaid carers in Swindon. Every day 6,000 people become carers and many don’t know how or where to get help, making it a challenging process. Our vision, is to raise awareness and funds for the community of unpaid carers so that they receive the right support to help them in their caring roles towards family members, partners or friends.

In order to raise funds without putting our donors at risk, we decided to create a fun(d)raising treasure hunt that can be played indoors, to keep families at home entertained during the pandemic. Any donation, no matter how small, will go a long way in improving someone's life.By donating to our cause, you will not only receive a fun treasure hunt* to play with your loved ones but will also be helping and supporting the 21,000 unpaid carers in Swindon.

*The treasure hunt game will be sent via the automated email after your donation has been made. If you do not receive the game please contact us on swindoncarersjustgiving@gmail.com

The mission of Swindon Carers Centre (SCC) is to improve the well-being of people with caring responsibilities in and around Swindon, creating a community where carers are recognised, valued and supported. It is part of the Carers Trust Network, and was established to provide help and support to the 21,000 carers in Swindon. SCC has a team of professionals and trained volunteers, who provide a wide range of support and services to carers of all ages: • Assessing carers’ needs on an individual basis and draw up support plans to reduce the impact of caring on their lives. This includes young carers aged between 5 and 18 • Providing breaks – a few hours of respite for carers and families • Running a range of self-help groups for carers, giving them the opportunity to meet with other carers and share information and advice • Working in partnership with schools to support young carers to fulfill their potential • Offering training courses to groups of carers based on their needs • Delivering an Emergency Card scheme to offer carers peace of mind • Running a Welfare and Benefits Advice service to support carers (and the people they care for) who are facing financial difficulties and may be eligible for welfare benefits but are not claiming them. Benefits Advisors assess carers’ eligibility for benefits based on their individual circumstances and needs.
