Well we have done it Hurray!!!!, Everyone gave it there all, although 9 started only 6 made it to the end, the three we lost tried there hardest, well done lads you put a great effort in, The only ones to have a fall were both women, I (Lynda) fell off twice and head butted a bridge, not recommended, that was on the Saturday, Jackie fell off on the Saturday and on the Sunday fell off and into the canal how unlucky can you be? despite this with one phone call a fresh set of clothes were brought out and she carried on. The going on Saturday was particularly horrendous as the ground was sodden, we were all in our private little hell as we pushed on towards home we did over 13hours of riding it was cold wet and getting very windy we all wondered about our sanity and if we would get up the next day there was not one of us that had any energy left on Saturday night as we landed home around 9 or 10pm. On Sunday morning at 7.15 we all met at T2K still sore and tired but very determined to finish, even though Jackie fell in the canal it was a better day, the ground was not as muddy but our aching legs and bums made the going slower. We only had two punctures, Tony had the first and I had the second 2miles from the end, we had to mend it as i couldn't walk the last 2miles after doing all the hard riding. We were all glad to see the last lock, despite having to go back up the last three locks to meet up with Barbara and Steve. Steve was great collecting the lads that couldn't finish and taking them home, Barbara met us at church to take photos even though it was late. We would like to thank them both again for taking us to Leeds and then collecting us at Liverpool, we couldn't have done it without them, also we would like to thank T2K for letting us use the minibus and van and supplying fuel, There is a big thanks to everyone who rode, Stars every one !!!!, and a big thanks to all who donated to the charity.
On my Birthday my very thoughtful Husband Tony bought me a bicycle,I then convinced him to get one as well, he did and we were off or so we thought on our maiden voyage my chain broke so i had to push my bike back from Church, the town that is, we tried again my handle bars worked loose so i pushed my bike back once again from Church! I woke up to try again thinking 'wouldn't it be good to cycle from Leeds to Liverpool along the canal and raise money for a charity' My Husband then went into work and told his work mates at T2K who all thought it was a great idea and decided to join us.
Yikes!!!!! We had only been as far as Church and its 127 miles better get training
We have heard a lot about Derian House and it is such a special place for the families who really need it. Someone told me today that they know someone whose Daughter goes to Derian House and the Mother said it was the one thing that was keeping her together, This one statement made me realise that we had chosen the right charity. We all hope that you will support us - we are putting in the leg work all you need to do is put your hand in your pockets and help us raise as much as we can
Training
Two weeks ago on the 2-8-09, Tony and Lynda went to Leeds to ride the first half of the route to see how long it would take, Steve drove us to Leeds, and was then meeting us in Skipton along with Allan,Unbeknown to us Allan planed to ride from Gargrave and meet us,he tried to ring but got no answer, as we rode along the canal Tony noticed a cyclist who had gone wrong as the towpath changed sides, it was only when we stopped at Bingley and rang Allan we realised the cyclist had been Allan, What are the chances of that happening??, and by this time he was about six miles from Leeds, Allan turned round and would you believe it HE CAUGHT US UP IN SKIPTON.......What a guy!!!!!!!
We have now added two photos of six of the team who on Sunday morning 9-8-09 went on a challenging practice ride through Witton Park and the Roddlesworth res area, quite a few hills were climbed, this would not have been possible for some of us if Michael had not spurred us on,what a coach (or sadist) we all had a great few hours and we saw some interesting sights including a rather large but beautiful deer,
On Sunday 16-8-09 Tony,Allan and Lynda rode the canal from Chorley to Liverpool as a practice, the towpath was not quite as good as we thought a lot of it being grass mud and very narrow not to mention all the fishermen, the fishermen moved the long rods you just have to be patient and smile a lot, we had a great time Allan's wife was great meeting us at Liverpool with a cheery smile, the last 47miles isn't quite as tough as the first 47 bit it is still hard going.
