We unlock our disabled students' potential to help change their lives for their future

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are three of the School and College Office Administration Team and know how amazing all of the students at Treloar's are.  There are so many inspirational stories and we would like to help raise money to fund the Outdoor Learning Centre for the upcoming year.  They need £1000 to make sure that all of the students can benefit from using this wonderful space.

Please see below for more information about how this helps our students.

Treloar’s Outdoor Learning Centre

Treloar’s has a wonderful Outdoor learning Centre which is now a core part of the services provided, giving a much needed outdoor area for leisure and social activities for those with complex SEND. Given their physical and cognitive complexities, many of the students at Treloar’s are experiential learners and the area has been designed so that young people will have lots of hands on opportunities to encourage learning in a fun way.

There are both inside and outside activities so the area can be used all year round and there are excellent care and toilet facilities close by for when needed.

Funding for the running costs is not provided by any statutory body, so cost of compost, plants even gardening tools and pots falls to Treloar’s to find on an annual basis. It is only by the kindness of friends and supporters that these items can be provided.

It would be lovely to take the students through at least one whole season of planting, giving them opportunities to plant, harvest, and see the different types of plants in different seasons, to make the learning fun all year round.

There are many other benefits of growing and planting:

Developing nurturing vegetables and plants

Learn responsibility and patience skills through caring for plants and animals.

Learning about the environment, through practical activities.

Medical benefit - being outside helps with Vitamin D associated  bone density and immune system.

Reducing stress/anxiety through improved wellbeing.

Developing both self-awareness and awareness of others.

Developing communication and social interaction skills.

Encouraging teamwork and relationship development.

Cognitive enhancement: concentration, engagement, memory, motivation, choosing, planning.

Physical aspects: repetitive movement, fine and gross motor skills, hand/eye co-ordination.

Integrating with the local community.
