Tasnim Munaim: Raising Mental Health Awareness in the Muslim Community
Fundraising for Inspirited Minds
Story
Assalamu Alaikum.
This Ramadan, I will be fundraising for Inspirited Minds, a mental health charity which launched in 2014 and is located in London, United Kingdom. The organisation aims to reduce stigma, raise awareness and provide professional, non-judgemental, confidential support to those, in particular Muslims, affected by mental health challenges.
Indeed, research has found that many Muslims find it difficult to seek help as they feel that they will not be understood by someone who does not understand their faith or culture. Furthermore, mental health issues are still seen as a taboo in many cultures of those who are Muslim, and thus many of our brothers and sisters are suffering in silence.
Inspirited Minds therefore aims to provide the support that these victims and their families are in need of. As a non-profit and public-funded organisation, Inspirited Minds requires our donations, in order to deliver counselling sessions and hold workshops to raise awareness of mental health in the Muslim community.
The Prophet (S.A.W) said: “Whoever removes a grief from a believer from amongst the sorrows of this life, Allah will remove a grief from him amongst the sorrows of the Day of Resurrection. Whoever brings ease to one in difficulty, Allah will make it easy for him in this life and the Hereafter. Whoever covers a Muslim, Allah will cover him in this life and the Hereafter. Allah is in aid of the servant so long as the servant is in aid of his brother".
Let's get together this Ramadan, to support the mission of Inspirited Minds, and ultimately help our brothers and sisters who are experiencing mental health challenges, to feel empowered to live a fulfilling life.
