Story

UPDATE (25/03/10): We've now passed our £1,000 target!!!  However we still want to raise more so please keep sponsoring us!  Thanks to everyone who has done so so far!

Thanks for visiting our JustGiving page!

At 10am on Saturday 27th March somewhere near Redhill in Surrey and in support of 'Help for Heroes', nine brave men and women will be setting off on a 10K run... and probably already regretting the moment they agreed to do it as this is not just a gentle jog round the park, oh no.  This is the British Military Fitness 10K!!!  (Have a look at the video on the left for an idea of what we have let ourselves in for...). It is a 10K off-road event that is run in on a private 4x4 course and is summed up by this line from the event organisers:

"You are guaranteed to finish this race wet, muddy, smelly and exhausted!!"

Those men and women that will be putting their bodies on the line are listed below and together we make up TEAM FL!

Andy Dodd (10K)
Tom Harverson (10K)
Lorna Falconer (5K)
Michael Tattersall (10K)
Stuart Trigwell (10K)
Sarah-Jane Vanstone (5K)
Gavin Megaw (10K)
Mark Smith (10K)

Keirina Rowland (entered 5K but upgraded to the 10K!)

This season Help for Heroes is the official charity of The Football League (find out more here) and rather than just sitting in the office helping to organise all the activity some bright spark thought it might be a good idea to get out there and raise some money ourselves...

Working with Help for Heroes this season we have been truely inspired by the work they do and the people that benefit from the money they raise.  If you have heard of the charity but are not really sure what they do then let us briefly explain:  Essentially Help for Heroes provides direct and practical support for our injured service personnel. It's about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It's about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it's about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. It's about Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could say goodbye to his wife. It's about them all. They are just blokes but they are our blokes; they are our heroes. We want to help our heroes.

Now, if that still hasn't convinced you then maybe we should just remind you that this event involves getting wet, muddy and smelly and Lorna is still doing it! That is surely worth lots of your sponsorship money on it's own!!

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Help for Heroes really is a great charity and this really is a big challenge so please dig deep and donate now!!

Also, if you are free on the day then please come along to support us and give us a cheer as we crawl across the line covered in mud!
